What do kids have to be stressed about? Have you ever had that thought or asked that question? The answer may surprise you. Kids have many stressors in today’s busy, competitive world. Performance at school and in sports can be a source. Navigating friendships and other groups can be another. Having a body that is growing and changing all the time can stimulate the stress response in youth. Children are continuously learning about themselves and the world around them and have a need to understand their place and feel accepted.
Parents, give yourself a break when it comes to managing your kids’ stress. You have enough of your own! Children can be taught to listen to their bodies, pay attention to their thoughts and feelings and decide for themselves how to respond to their own stress. We are partnering with West End Yoga in Canton to offer a summer day-camp program to do just that. This 5-day camp will provide your child with an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be intentionally calm. Through a balance of yoga, nutrition and mindfulness, kids can enjoy a state of harmony, joy and intelligence that radiates from the inside out. Children will learn to focus their attention, take time out to breathe and just enjoy being a kid. This camp is filled with fun games and activities and is designed for each child to take what they learn and apply it to everyday life.
The camp is Aug. 22-26, 10:45 a.m.– 3:45 pm. Questions can be directed to Leah at West End Yoga, 734-223-6442. Register on the West End Yoga website.
